Local Information
 HIGH BICKINGTON
This is our local village (1.4miles) where there is a church,
a general store, a post office and two pubs. The Old George,
in the centre of the village, has a small restaurant with first-rate
home cooked food. For children there is a lovely adventure playground,
ideal for the under 10's. It is situated just the other side
of the village in the corner of the playing field. Recycling
shed also situated here although we do have our own recycling
bins which we encourage visitors to use. Libbaton Golf Club is
just past the village on the right. Take the first
right hand lane after the village and the playing field is 50m
on the left.
FOOD SHOPPING
High Bickington - 1.4 miles.
The FISH & CHIPS van comes to the village on a Tuesday 4.30pm
- 7.30PM
 Atherington - 1.8 miles. Small village shop with Tea Shop &
Post Office attached. Open 9am 5.30 (Tue - Sat) 10am - 5pm (Sun)
Small selection of groceries, but useful for milk, sweets, icecream,
some wine & beer, postcards and local maps. The lovely old
fashioned Tea Shop makes delicious home-made cakes. It can be
reached via the footpath opposite our entrance. This walk is
just under a mile and takes you across the fields into the village.
Upon reaching the village turn left and after a short distance
you will see the Tea Shop on your right. By road -
Turn left at our entrance, take the first right and then right
again at the crossroads. This will take you into the village.
Local Garage -
4 miles. One-stop type shop. Open 7am - 10pm (Mon - Sat) 8am
- 9pm (Sun). Sells most things including cigarettes, magazines
and newspapers, but no alcohol. Go through Atherington
and at the T Junction turn left towards Barnstaple on the A377.
The garage is just under 2 miles on the left.
Tesco - 10 miles.
Superstore. Open 8am Mon - 10pm Sat 10am - 4pm Sun. Order online and they will deliver. Large car
park, just outside of town. Good breakfasts in cafe. Cash Dispensers
outside store. Chemist next door. Petrol filling station. Go
through the village of Atherington and at the T Junction, turn
left towards Barnstaple, on the A377. Follow the signs to Barnstaple
and you will see the Tesco superstore on your right before you
get into the town centre. (just after the roundabout where the
A39 joins the A361)

miles. Superstore. Open 8.30am - 8pm (Mon-Wed) 8.30am - 9pm (Thur
& Fri)
7.30am - 8pm (Sat) 10am - 4pm (Sun) Large car park. Cafe. Cash
Dispensers outside of store. Boots the chemist next door. Petrol
filling station. Go through the village of Atherington
and at the T Junction, turn left towards Barnstaple, on the A377.
At the roundabout where the A377 meets the A39, turn left towards
Bideford and Bude. At the next roundabout, turn right and follow
the signs to the Superstores.
Shortcut - If you don't mind narrow lanes go straight across
the crossroads at Langridge cross and turn left when you meet
the A377. This will reduce the distance to Barnstaple by 2 miles.
PETROL FILLING STATIONS
There are filling stations at the Sainbury & Tesco stores
and at our local garage as listed above. For a 24hr filling station
there is a BP garage on the Roundswell roundabout just before
Sainsbury.

TRAIN STATION
The local station is at Umberleigh and from here you can travel
to Barnstaple(10mins) or Exeter(1hr) It is known as the Tarka
Line

BUS SERVICE
We now have 2 buses
leaving High Bickington each weekday for Barnstaple!
From Barnstaple you can get to several of the beaches and a fair
number of the local attractions.
DevonBus 325 They leave the village just after 8am and 10am and
return from Barnstaple at just after 2pm and 4.30pm.
